Welcome to the practice of Dr. Mark A. Simmons, a La Vernia, TX dentist providing exceptional dental care in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Dr. Simmons has been practicing dentistry in his home state of Texas since 1985. In January 2013, Dr. Simmons decided that instead of splitting his time between two locations, he would better serve patients by focusing full time on his private practice in La Vernia. At his dental practice, Dr. Simmons provides an array of procedures including general exams, teeth cleanings, fillings, x-rays, and fluoride treatments.  He also offers cosmetic dentistry such as veneers, teeth whitening, dentures (partial and implant-retained), root canals, extractions, dental implant restorations, and a periodontal tissue management program.

To stay abreast of the ongoing technological advancements, particularly in the fields of cosmetic and family dentistry, our La Vernia dentist has taken an additional 1000+ hours in post dental educational training. This has enabled him to provide a wider range of services for the betterment of his patients and their oral hygiene needs.

Dr. Simmons is highly regarded in the dental community and has received several special honors in light of his achievements. His professional peers have repeatedly elected him for inclusion in Texas Monthly magazine as one of the top dentists in the San Antonio area. He has also appeared in a San Antonio monthly publication as a distinguished dentist currently practicing in the state of Texas. Dr. Simmons works daily to offer his patients the highest level of care in an effort to prove those honors continue to be warranted.

Dr. Simmons has memberships in each of the following professional associations:
• The San Antonio District Dental Society
• The Texas Dental Association
• The American Dental Association
• The Academy of General Dentistry

Dr. Simmons’ dedication to providing exceptional dental care in a warm and friendly setting, along with his commitment to ongoing education, makes him a dentist that patients trust.

Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection.  In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function. Having a root canal done on a tooth is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would die and have to be removed.  Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the solution, but...

An inlay restoration is a custom made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain.  It is made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented into the tooth by your dentist. Inlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma.  Inlays are an ideal alternative to conventional silver and composite fillings.  Also, they are more conservative than crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of inlays. ...

An onlay restoration is a custom made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain.  An onlay is sometimes also referred to as a partial crown.  It is made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented onto the tooth by your dentist. Onlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma.  Onlays are an ideal alternative to crowns (caps) because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of onlays.  Onlays are essentially...

Pediatric dentistry (formerly Pedodontics/Paedodontics) primarily focuses on children from birth through adolescence.  The American Dental Association (ADA), recognizes pediatric dentistry as a specialty, and therefore requires dentists to undertake two or three years of additional training after completing a general dentistry degree.  At the end of this training, the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry issues a unique diploma (Diplomate ABPD).  Some pediatric dentists (pedodontists) opt to specialize in oral care for children with special...

Air abrasion is a new micro-dentistry technique that is used to treat tooth decay and prepare teeth for restorations.  Traditionally, dentists used noisy dental drills to remove decay and prepare the teeth for fillings, but air abrasion has proven to be a noiseless, heatless, minimally invasive alternative.  Air abrasion is similar to sandblasting, in that tiny particles are propelled toward small areas of decay to remove them.  A filling is then applied to seal the tooth from further harm. An anesthetic is not usually required for this...
